Directors and Management

Mark Calderwood (Chairman)

Mark Calderwood is a Chartered Professional Member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and has 30 years’ experience in gold exploration and mining, resource/reserve estimation and feasibility studies. Previously, Mark spent more than a decade with Mt Edon Gold Mines, before moving onto Border Gold, a junior gold explorer which later became Moto Gold Mines. In 1995 he moved to Ghana to run gold explorer Leo Shield Exploration NL’s Ghana office. Leo Shield ultimately became Perseus Mining in 2003.

Mark was Managing Director of Perseus Mining from its inception until January 2013 and steered the company from explorer status to a +200,000oz per year gold producer. Mark is currently a Non-Executive Director of Amani Gold and the Managing Director of aspiring lithium producer, Tawana Resources NL.

Manas has also entered into earn-in and joint venture agreements to acquire the rights to earn up to an 85% interest in the Gonsan Project and up to an 80% interest in the Bouaké Nord Project located in Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa. Both the Gonsan and Bouaké Nord project areas are early-stage, strategically-located holdings over highly prospective Birimian greenstone belts.


Mr. Chris MacKenzie (Chief Executive Officer)

In July 2018, Manas appointed Mr. Chris MacKenzie as the Company’s Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. MacKenzie, a Chartered Geologist (Geological Society of London), is an experienced mining executive with over 25 years of industry experience, across a number of mineral commodities from target generation and exploration to mining, in a range of management roles. He has extensive experience throughout Africa but has also worked on projects in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Mr. MacKenzie holds a BSc. (Honours) Degree in Geology from Portsmouth University, UK and anMSc. Degree in Exploration Geology from Rhodes University, South Africa.

Mr. MacKenzie’s most recent public company role was as founder of TSX-listed Helio Resource Corp., where he served as Executive Chairman and later as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director. In a 12 year career at Helio, he was responsible for identification and development of that company’s gold projects in Namibia and Tanzania as well as assessing numerous other projects in varying jurisdictions. In 2006 he led Helio into Tanzania and was responsible for the acquisition and advancement of the SMP gold project from grass-roots to NI 43-101 compliant resource and PEA (>1.2 Moz Au). Mr. MacKenzie was also instrumental in securing the strategic investment by the World Bank (International Finance Corporation) in Helio during 2010.

Susmit Shah (Non-Executive Director)

Susmit Shah is a chartered accountant with more than 25 years' experience.  Over the past 20 years, Mr Shah has been involved with a diverse range of Australian listed public companies in company secretarial and financial roles.  His experience includes negotiation and conduct of mining joint ventures, public flotations and mergers and acquisitions.  Mr Shah is also a Director of  Amani Gold Limited.

David Kelly (Non-Executive Director)

David Kelly is a geologist and experienced company director. Currently as General Manager of Corporate Strategy at ASX-listed gold miner Resolute Mining Limited, David is responsible for strategic business analysis and project evaluation. Mr Kelly has served in various senior executive roles in the resources sector for the last 30 years including as a geologist, investment banker, and corporate advisor. David is currently a Non-Executive Director of Predictive Discovery Limited and has previously served as a Director of Ridge Resources Limited, Renaissance Minerals Limited and Pacific Ore Limited.
